Gr2 is an abbreviation for Prof. Vladimír Kokolia's Graphics 2 Studio at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. Many outstanding personalities of the contemporary art scene have emerged from this studio since 1992. To this day, “legends” are told about some of them – and these fragments of memory became the nucleus for the Legends of Gr2 project. One by one, 32 artists spent a few days creating in public view art works or installations at Galerie Havelka. Each was accompanied by memories and recollections about them by their classmates and teachers.
The exhibition at New Town Hall presents the entire project, which along with familiar faces also calls attention to interesting lesser-known names.
Among the Legends of the Graphics 2 Studio is also Šárka Trčková († 2015), who worked for two decades as Prof. Kokolia’s assistant. An extensive book mapping her remarkable life and work will be presented on the occasion of this exhibition.
