Jan Hísek: Midsummer Flowers

May 29. — June 28, 2018

The new solo show by one of the most noteworthy Czech artists, Jan Hísek (1965), is loosely connected to his Turtlesphere project, which he exhibited six years ago at Galerie Havelka in Prague. Being presented for the first time, this small selection of black-and- white paintings and drawings from the past few months combines personal mythology, the intuitive magic of the picture plane, pagan traditions with elements of Christianity, and the motif of a daisy — which has spontaneously sprouted up in Hísek’s works. It’s an allegorical Midsummer exhibition symbolically framing the summer solstice.
